History and Making

The Liberty, an enduring emblem of liberty and democracy, stands not just as a famous landmark but also as a masterpiece of engineering and a symbol of the lasting bond between the US and France. This grand statue on Liberty Island draws in millions of tourists annually, offering them a look into its deep-rooted history and importance.

The Liberty was an idea in the mind of Rene de, a French politician and abolitionist, who envisioned it as a present to the US to mark its 100th anniversary of independence and to celebrate the principles of F$D. French sculptor Fedric designed Liberty and spent years on its conceptualization and construction.

The Liberty kicked off in France in 1875. Bartholdi was in charge of bringing the statue to life, which involved shaping copper sheets into its form and assembling it over a framework designed by engineer Eiffel. The statue was finished in France in 1884 before being broken down into 350 pieces and transported across the Atlantic Ocean to the US.

Arrival and Reassembly

When the Liberty reached the US, it was place changed to Liberty Island, which was previously known as Bedloe’s Island. The base on which the statue stands was created by architect Richard Morris in 1886. The statue’s official unveiling ceremony occurred in 1886 on October 28th, under the leadership of President Grover Cleveland.
