Majuli

Majuli a unique cultural and biological hotspot, is located along the Brahmaputra River in the northeastern Indian state of Assam. The island’s lush vegetation, lush farmland, and winding rivers offer spectacular scenery that attracts tourists from all over the world. You’ll find various ethnic groups, including the Mishing, Deori and Sonowal Kacharis, each with their own customs and language, and engage in centuries-old traditional crafts such as pottery, hand-weaving and mask-making. One of India’s top tourist destinations, Majuli in Assam is the center of Vaishnavite culture founded by the neo-Vaishnavite reformer Srimanta Sankardev, and the island is dotted with numerous sacred satras (monasteries).
